Hit-Not is a proximity detection system that helps eliminate collisions involving vehicles and other powered equipment within the workplace. Hit-Not technology is based on low frequency magnetic fields and is much more reliable, precise, and encompassing than other available technologies such as RFID, sonar, and camera-based systems.

This patented technology allows the HIT-NOT® Proximity Detection System to read and warn through walls, racks, and other blind corner obstructions that cause life changing injuries and sometimes death. It is a precise marker with two zones, Warning and Danger, which are indicated by a LED light and audible sounder for the pedestrian and equipment driver simultaneously. It offers precise signal strength within an extended range and encircles the equipment 360°.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • The patented Hit-Not technology utilizes low-frequency magnetic fields, which will reliably pass through most typical walls and structures.  Hit-Not technology consists primarily of a Magnetic Field Generator which is placed on any type of powered equipment (e.g. lift trucks, powered carts, straddle carriers, gantry cranes, etc…) and the Personal Alarm Device (PAD) worn by pedestrians, or other equipment to be avoided.  Magnetic fields allow for precise measurement of distance and are much more reliable than other technologies, such as RFID, because they are not subject to the same limitations that commonly defeat and obstruct those systems (e.g. reflection, lack of line-of-sight, signal absorption, etc…)
  • The Hit-Not System is uniquely suited to help users avoid potentially life threatening collisions.  For example, the key to preventing “struck-by” incidents involving pedestrians is the Personal Alarm Device (PAD).  The PAD senses, and communicates with, the Magnetic Field Generator mounted on the powered equipment.  As the Magnetic Field Generator approaches the PAD, the PAD determines the threat level: No Threat, Warning, or Danger.  The PAD reacts differently to all three states.  When a PAD enters the Warning Zone of a Field Generator it immediately provides an intermittent alarm to both the pedestrian and the vehicle operator via a bright LED and intense audible alarm.  When a PAD enters the Danger Zone of a Field Generator, the Warning Alarm changes to the continuous Danger Alarm – both LED and audible sounder provide a continuous alarm.  The key, and most important difference, is that BOTH the pedestrian AND the equipment operator are warned of impending collisions.  This differentiates the Hit-Not Proximity Detection System from other warning systems in a fundamental and critical way.
  • The magnetic fields are elliptical in shape and are preset at the factory 30 feet in front of the generator and 30 feet behind to define the Danger Zone (60 feet total). The Warning Zone is an additional 13 feet in both directions for a total of 86 feet. When the PAD is exposed to the magnetic field, the pedestrian will receive a series of 3 beeps for the Warning Zone or a continuous alarm within the Danger Zone.

Please note that this system can be used to provide warnings for vehicle vs. vehicle collisions.  By adding a Collision Avoidance Module (CAM) to the Magnetic Field Generator, you essentially provide PAD functionality to the piece of equipment the system is mounted to.  The alarm for pending vehicle vs. vehicle collisions is different than that use for impending vehicle vs. pedestrian collisions.  Further, pedestrian (PAD) collisions take precedence and only pedestrian Danger Zone incursions utilize the continuous alarm.
